Unique Kitchen with Inlay
West Street, Penryn
A playful bespoke kitchen project. The existing kitchen was dated and didn’t make use of the space. Our client, Sophie, explained her kitchen wants, needs and requirements before agreeing on a layout. We felt it was important to fit the new kitchen around the existing curves, utilising alcoves and tackling low ceilings. All features often found in cottages here in Cornwall. Consisting of an L-shaped run of base units, a made-to-measure corner cupboard and wall units with sliding doors. This unique interior space now looks and feels beautiful.
Modern Marquetry specifics: Pine-fronted Birch ply doors and drawer fronts made up our inlay canvas. Our client provided us with their home’s colour palette and an idea of pattern preference, allowing us to create the inlay composite. Again, working closely with the client, an inlaid stripe was agreed upon and its path was drawn out. The outcome produced is, of course, 100% unique to them and cannot be reproduced. Even if we tried. Modern Marquetry meets kitchen design.
Materials: Birch Ply units, doors and drawer fronts have been built with strength in mind. A 40mm prime Oak worktop sits on the base units.
Finish: Lacquered surfaces allow for wiping clean, whilst oiled worktops allow for stand-out grain texture and water repellency.
Sophie’s Review:
“Dan and Ravi created a completely bespoke kitchen for my very old Cornish cottage. They did an absolutely amazing job navigating the strange space…
… the quality is beyond what I'd hoped…
… I'd thoroughly recommend Stratum Designs to anyone wanting something extremely well made with a bit of extra character!…”
